Exam Rules and Calculator Models
Every year students arrive at an examination with a calculator they cannot use. The rules are not complicated but they are specific.
Read the board’s list
Permission is set by the examination board and the institution, not by the manufacturer. Check the current published guidance for the specific qualification.
What usually causes trouble
Features that store text, communicate with other devices, or work symbolically are the ones most often restricted. A model can be allowed for one qualification and not another.
Covers and cases
Many halls require the case to be left outside or any printed reference material on it removed. Trivial, and it catches people out.
Practise on the machine you will use
Borrowing an unfamiliar calculator on the day costs marks in fumbled entry, whatever its capabilities.
